ALFA LAVAL INTRODUCES WideGap PHE especially made for Sugar and Ethanol industry

Wide Open for business
New wide-open heat exchanger for those fibrous fluids

Wider ports + 36%

Taller pates + 15%

Wider gaps + 50%

Smarter plate pattern

The brand new WideGap 350 plate heat exchanger is launched by Alfa Laval is a niche heat exchanger that mainly targeted towards 3 main industries; the fuel ethanol, sugar and pulp and paper industries.

This is a perfect heat exchanger for thick, fibrous, viscous, coarse, dirty, rough, crude and clumpy fluids in large volumes and it will strengthen Alfa Laval’s position in the market.

Alfa Laval’s new high-capacity heat exchanger has been designed with some very demanding processing requirements in mind. The adverse nature of the fluids processed in many industries makes the heat transfer more difficult. And the predictability and efficiency required add to the challenge. This is exactly what makes the WideGap 350 such good news for industries like ethanol, sugar and pulp-and-paper. The WideGap 350 will be available in two versions – the 350 and 350X. The 350X version offers a channel depth of 17 mm, unmatched by any other plate heat exchanger.

What’s more, with its new smart plate pattern, the WideGap 350 requires much less cleaning than other types of heat exchangers. It will be great news for all fibrous businesses because of the following main features:

Six remarkable aspects of the WideGap 350.

1.   The WideGap 350 enables improved heat exchange.
Because the new plate patterns are more efficient, the heat transfer rate increases.

2.   The WideGap 350 produces better thermal fit.
Because the plates are 15% taller, it can handle duties with higher thermal length.

3.   The WideGap 350 allows longer service intervals.
Because the gaps between plates are 50% wider, fibres and particles flow more easily and this maximizes the up-time.

4.   The WideGap 350 results in greater throughput.
Because the ports are 36% wider, heat transfer greater and uptime higher, the overall process efficiency increases.

5.   The WideGap 350 offers greater versatility.
Because the smart plate patterns allow four different channel gap combinations, it can meet the diverging requirements of different fluids, processes and volumes.

6.   The WideGap 350 enables higher temperatures.
Because the gasket design uses a new elastomer, it can withstand higher design temperatures – up to 180°C. (At lower temperatures, gasket life is considerably extended.)

The ideal solution for fibrous businesses.

1.   Fuel Ethanol
The WideGap 350 is the ideal high-capacity system needed to expand the world’s production of fuel ethanol. This industry now faces increasing demand and soaring energy costs – a combination that should make the capacity and efficiency of the WideGap 350 very appealing. Both during fermentation and distillation, heating and cooling processes can interact more effectively and recover more valuable energy – despite fewer heat-exchange loops. And no other heat exchanger stays clean (and operational) as long as the WideGap 350.

2.   Sugar
The sugar industries too will find in the WideGap 350 an attractive alternative to conventional solutions. With energy prices increasing faster than the price of sugar, a more efficient heat exchanger can help recover valuable energy – and sell that energy back at a profit to the local power company. Especially a heat exchanger where clogging occurs as infrequently as in the WideGap 350 (or the 350X, with its unprecedented 17 mm spacing).
